UMass Dartmouth, Women's Soccer Play To 1-1 Draw

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State freshman Laura Maunsell (Medford, MA) and UMass Dartmouth senior Nichole Hoffman (Stoughton, MA) each scored goals for their respective teams as the Lancers and UMass Dartmouth played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime this evening in non conference women's soccer action at Coughlin Field.

The Lancers (7-5-4) held a 12-3 shooting advantage in the first, but the Corsairs (3-12-2) would end the opening frame with a 1-0 advantage as Hoffman lofted a shot over the head of Worcester State's keeper for her third marker of the season. She would score on a pass from the left side of the field on a breakaway from senior Kristen Soares (Berkley, MA) in the 21st minute.

Worcester State continued to make attempts at the Corsair net until they finally found success on Maunsell's third tally of the season in the 62nd minute as she booted in a nice feed off a corner kick from senior Sarah Connors (Gardner, MA).

In the extra session the Blue and Gold had several opportunities to close the deal as they outshot the visitors 8-0, but they could not finish on the other end of the field. Junior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) and sophomore Brianne Beckman (Lakeville, MA) each had chances, but each of their attempts sailed wide of the net.

The Lancers would hold a 29-6 edge in shots (13-3 on goal) and a slim 4-3 lead in corners.

Senior teammates Rachael Armenti (W. Boylston, MA) and Angieszaka Scychtysz (Warren, MA) shared time in net as Scychtsz played 65 minutes after she came off the bench to start the second period. Scychtysz finished with two saves for WSU.

Fourth-year Tonya Braga (Hudson, MA) turned aside 12 shots for the Corsairs.

Both teams play their regular season finales on Saturday against conference opponents. Worcester State entertains Fitchburg State at 10 AM on "Senior Day" while UMass Dartmouth heads to Danbury, CT to face off against Western Connecticut at 6 o'clock.
