Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 At Worcester City Tournament

 

Worcester, MA --- Behind a solid attack by senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA), Worcester State went 1-1 at the Worcester City Tournament this afternoon hosted by WPI as Jasper earned All-Tournament honors for her efforts.

The Lancers dropped a 3-1 decision to WPI in the opener before defeating Becker, 3-0, in the consolation game.

WSU will take a break over the week before competing in the Weslyean Quad Invitational next weekend starting with Curry on Friday evening at 7:30 PM.

 

WPI 3, Worcester State 1

Despite a match-best 21 kills from senior Alyssa Jasper, Worcester State was dispatched, 3-1, by WPI in the morning semifinal of the 29th Annual Worcester City Tournament.

The Blue and Gold took the opening set, 25-22, but the Engineers took the next three by scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-16.

Juinor Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) added a team-high 21 digs and six kills as classmate Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) chipped in with 19 digs herself.

Senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) and sophomore Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, VA) both doled out 17 assists apice while Townsend finished with eight digs, four kills, two solo block and a pair of block assists. 

 

Worcester State 3, Becker 0

Senior Alyssa Jasper finished with a .308 hitting percentage and her third double-double of the campaign with 18 kills and 13 digs to help lead Worcester State to a 3-0 triumph in the consolation round of the Worcester City Tournament over Becker.

The Lancers defeated the Hawks in three consecutive sets by scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22.

Junior Jennifer Cabral and teammate Kaylee Leduc combined for 31 of the squads 58 digs defensively as senior Amanda Lewis had a great all-around game with 21 assists, five digs and two kills.

Sophomore Jamika Townsend also dished out 16 assists and she recorded a pair of service aces for the Blue and Gold. 

Worcester State had 14 aces altogether as a squad with three by Cabral, two by Leduc and a duo by senior Ali Remigio (Tewksbury, MA).
