Palatino Picks Up MASCAC Baseball Rookie of the Week Award

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s freshman Ben Palatino (Hudson, Mass.) picked up the  Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC)’s first Rookie of the Week Accolade of the 2017 season, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.

Palatino went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, four runs scored and five RBI in the Lancers’ 15-14 come-from-behind win over Fisher College last Thursday. He scored the game-tying run in the 9th inning and was perfect on defense with seven put-outs in his collegiate baseball debut.

“Palatino, who sat out last season due to an injury, has worked hard to get back and it definitely showed in last week’s game,” said head coach Dr. Dirk Baker.

“It was a pretty memorable moment when he hit his first collegiate home run, and also when he was the game-tying run in the 9th inning,” commented Baker. “What was even more impressive was his defense at first base – especially since he’s never played that position before.”

The Lancers baseball team is back in action this week with another game at the New England Baseball Complex (NEBC) tomorrow against UMass Dartmouth at 3 p.m.
