Despres Tabbed MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s junior Sydney Despres (Sterling, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) player of the week for the week of Apr. 24-30.

Despres batted .412 (7-17) with five doubles, four RBI, five walks and six runs scored with a .545 on base percentage, and a .706 slugging percentage in a 6-0 week for the Blue and Gold.

She went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, four walks and an RBI in the sweep of Fitchburg State. She then went 3-for-6 with two runs, a double and a walk in the doubleheader shutout of Clark University and went 2-for-7 with a run, two doubles and three RBI in the two game sweep of MCLA.

“Sydney continues to work hard and prepare to be successful,” commented head coach Michelle Cote. As you can see from her on base percentage, she has learned to be a different kind of offensive threat, which Cote believes is just as effective.

“With that being said, Sydney has learned to be selfless and discipline by taking a walk,” said Cote. “Even when she walks, it has proven to be a huge advantage for the team.”

Despres currently leads not only her team, but the conference with a .404 batting average, a .538 on base percentage, and a .764 slugging percentage. She also leads the MASCAC in home runs, total bases, and walks.
