WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State University’s freshman guard Catherine Sweeney (Lowell, Mass.) has been tabbed the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women’s basketball rookie of the week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Sweeney registered seven points, seven rebounds and six assists in the Lancers’ 61-54 win over Salem State last Wednesday.
“Catherine has been making an impact in recent games with her strong rebounding, passing and aggressive drives to the basket,” commented head coach Karen Tessmer.
Sweeney is currently averaging 5.0 points and 4.2 assists per game for the Lancers’ offense.
“She will continue to develop into a significant contributor in our program as she gains game experience and confidence,” said Tessmer. “Her best days are ahead of her.”
