WESTFIELD, Mass. – Two Worcester State student-athletes have won Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors brought to you by GEICO. Will Ahearn (Charlestown, Mass.) of the men’s ice hockey team and Eddie Hassell (Milton, Mass.) of the men’s basketball team were honored this week as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Ahearn netted two goals in a 2-0 week for the Lancers. He scored one goal in the 5-1 win over Saint Anselm College and then added another goal in the 2-0 win over Westfield State.
Hassell averaged eight points, 4.5 rebounds and two steals in two games for the Lancers. He scored 10 points, five rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes of action in the 96-84 setback to Western Connecticut State University and added six points, four rebounds and three steals off the bench in a loss to Bowdoin College.
Ahearn and the ice hockey team will play next on the road against UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m. Hassell and the men’s basketball team will travel to Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday, November 20, tipping off at 5:30 p.m.
