Antonelli and Taylor Receive Weekly Recognition from Little East

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Seniors Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) and Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass.), members of the Worcester State University field hockey and women's tennis teams respectively, have received weekly honors from the Little East Conference. Antonelli was named the Little East Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week, while Taylor was named the LEC Women's Tennis Co-Player of the Week. The announcements came from the conference office on Monday afternoon.

After becoming Worcester State's all-time leading goal scorer two weeks ago, Antonelli continued her climb up the all-time Worcester State points list last week with a two-goal, four-assist week. Antonelli had a goal and three assists in a 4-2 LEC win over Westfield State on Tuesday, before scoring a goal and an assist in an LEC win over Fitchburg State on Saturday. Antonelli currently sits at 128 points for her career, nine points behind recent graduate Michaila Parent's all-time record of 137 points.

Taylor went 5-1 in her six matches this week as the Lancers went a perfect 3-0. Taylor was a perfect 3-0 in doubles play, with one win at first doubles and two at second doubles. In singles play, Taylor went 2-1, with both wins coming at first singles in LEC victories. Her lone loss came by retirement in Worcester State's win over Emerson on Friday, after she took the first set 6-1.

Antonelli is the seventh member of the Lancer field hockey team to receive an LEC Weekly Award this season, and the third player to win Offensive Player of the Week, joining classmates Rachel Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Sophia Monopoli (Worcester, Mass.). Taylor is the first Worcester State women's tennis LEC award winner this season.

Taylor's women's tennis team will look to run its win streak to four matches when it returns to the court Tuesday evening for a Little East matchup with UMass Dartmouth. Antonelli's field hockey team returns to the field for a 7 p.m. start on Wednesday evening at home against Southern Maine.
