USTFCCCA Release

WORCESTER, Mass. – Five Worcester State University student-athletes have earned All-Region honors for the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week.

Worcester State's throwers, male and female, led the pack this season as Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.) was marked All-New England in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw. Weeks was ranked 1^st in New England in the shot put (16.70m), 3^rd in New England in the discus (50.51m), and 3^rd in the hammer throw (56.47m). At the national level, he is ranked 10^th in the discus, 13^th in the shot put, and 18^th in the hammer, and is attending the NCAA Division III National Championship this week in Geneva, Ohio.

Teammate Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) earned All-New England honors in both the discus and hammer throws. He threw a season-best 45.79m in the discus for 5^th place, and threw for 55.48m in the hammer throw to rank 4^th in Division III New England.

On the women's side, Stephanie McFadries (Burlington, Mass.) earned All-New England honors in the javelin throw as she completed the season ranked 4^th in Division III New England with a personal record (PR) top throw of 41.81m. She currently stands at 18^th on the national list, and is attending the Division III National Championship this week in Geneva.

Justin Lewis (Lynn, Mass.) earned All-Region honors in the high jump as he registered a PR of 2.07m at the Holy Cross Meet held on April 24. With this result, he stands at 3^rd in the Division III New England region, and 12^th nationally. Lewis will also attend the NCAA Division III National Championship this week.

Classmate Edward Boamah (Worcester, Mass.) earned All-Region honors in the 400 Meter Dash as he topped all of Division III New England with a time of 47.78, which he recorded at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championship on April 29. He stands at 10^th nationally and is also in Geneva this week.

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region – as well the region's top-3 relay teams – earned All-Region distinction. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, Great Lakes, Mideast, Midwest, New England, South/Southeast and West – match those used during cross country and the indoor track & field season.

A total of 935 men and 945 women nabbed All-Region honors for their efforts during an incredible outdoor track & field season that was highly competitive and entertaining.
