Courteney Blais Named Head Women’s Tennis Coach

WORCESTER, Mass. - After serving as the women’s tennis interim head coach for the 2015-16 season, Courteney Blais has been named the head coach as announced by Worcester State’s Director of Athletics, Michael Mudd, on Tuesday (Aug. 9).

“We are excited to promote Courteney to head coach,” said Mudd.  “She did an excellent job last year serving in an interim capacity and deserves the opportunity to run her own tennis program.”

During her interim season, Blais’ team saw an appearance in the Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament, leading her team to a 5-11 overall and a 3-5 LEC record.

Before her interim head coaching stint, Blais was an assistant for the Blue and Gold three seasons prior. As an assistant, she helped guide the Lancers to three appearances in the Little East Tournament playoffs with a semifinals appearance during the 2013 season.

"It's an exciting time to be involved in Worcester State University Athletics and I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue my passion for coaching tennis,” stated Blais.

In addition to coaching for Worcester State, Blais has been an assistant pro at Paxton Tennis and Fitness Club for the past two years where she coaches all ages and levels of tennis. She also plays competitively in USTA 8.0 mixed doubles and USTA 4.0 ladies leagues.

“Going into my fifth season of coaching at my alma mater, the enthusiasm and drive is at an all-time high for a successful season with a great squad of players," expressed Blais.
