Six Lancers Named to MASCAC Fall 2016 Sportsmanship Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – On Tuesday (Nov. 29) the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) named 46 student-athletes, six of which were Worcester State student-athletes, to the Fall 2016 Sportsmanship team for their outstanding sportsmanship.

 

The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes and coaches who display outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field. As an important piece of the MASCAC and NCAA philosophy, the representatives on the team display what it means to have good sportsmanship in the MASCAC.

 

The sports that are represented on the fall team are men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball. A student-athlete from each institution is selected by their coach to be placed on the Sportsmanship Team.

 

Joe Celia of Bridgewater State, Jake Hastings of Fitchburg State, Adam Meltzer of Framingham State, Jeremiah Jones of MCLA, Esmael Mendes of Massachusetts Maritime, Derik Noland of Westfield State and Joseph Grider of Worcester State were named to the Sportsmanship Team from men’s cross country.

 

On the women’s cross country team, Kristyn Grattan of Bridgewater State, Casey Taylor of Fitchburg State, Hannah Rogers of Framingham State, Annie Gagnon of MCLA, Kaylene Murphy of Massachusetts Maritime, Jessie Cardin of Westfield State and Mia Rogers of Worcester State take home the sportsmanship honor.

 

Headlining the Football Sportsmanship Team are AJ Pascuzzo of Bridgewater State, Taylor Eckstrom of Fitchburg State, Aaron Owens of Framingham State, Adam Banks of Massachusetts Maritime, Brandon Mitchell of Plymouth State, John Beardsley of UMass Dartmouth, Brian Birdsell of Western Connecticut State, Cam Gallagher of Westfield State and Matt Loureiro of Worcester State.

 

Drew Guay of Bridgewater State, Victoria Floeck of Fitchburg State, Kayla Alstrom of Framingham State, Brittany Whitford of MCLA, Aoife Callinan of Massachusetts Maritime, Talia Frazier of Salem State, Taylor Grijalva of Westfield State and Sarah Kane of Worcester State are the Women’s Soccer Sportsmanship Team honorees.

 

In men’s soccer, AJ Vernaglia of Bridgewater State, Thomas Mahlert of Fitchburg State, Simon Appiah of Framingham State, Romeo Grey of MCLA, Matt McDonough of Massachusetts Maritime, Tim Kilpatrick of Salem State, Tyler Martins of Westfield State and Tyler Church of Worcester State land on the Sportsmanship Team.

 

Rounding out the sportsmanship squads is volleyball where Alyssa Kelley of Bridgewater State, Vicki Anderson of Framingham State, Sam Anderson of MCLA, Emma Ethier of Massachusetts Maritime, Olivia Summit of Salem State, Jen Green of Westfield State and Nana Darkwa of Worcester State are recognized.
