WESTFIELD, Mass. – 34 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) student-athletes have been recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship as members of the 2016 Spring Sportsmanship Teams.
The MASCAC Sportsmanship Teams recognize student-athletes and coaches who display outstanding sportsmanship on and off the field. As an important piece of the MASCAC and NCAA philosophy, the representatives on the team display what it means to have good sportsmanship in the MASCAC.
The sports that are represented on the spring team are baseball, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field and softball. A student-athlete from each institution is selected by their coach to be placed on the sport they compete in Sportsmanship Team. Joining the student-athletes is also a coach who was voted on by their peers to be the Sportsmanship Coach of the Year for their respective sport.
Kicking off the Spring Sportsmanship teams is baseball. David Holmes of Bridgewater State, Robert Lewis of Fitchburg State, Brendan McDonough of Framingham State, Robert Jutras of MCLA, Alex Rozak of Massachusetts Maritime, Colton Fontaine of Salem State, Tyler Adams of Westfield State and Matt Lavin of Worcester State were recognized while Nathan Bashaw of Westfield State repeats as the Sportsmanship Coach of the Year.
Sitting on the women’s lacrosse team are Lisa Moynihan of Bridgewater State, Brianna Dunn of Fitchburg State, Claryssa Cunniff of Framingham State, Rachel Green of MCLA, Molly Smith of Massachusetts Maritime, Katie Hart of Salem State, Stephanie Godek of Wesfield State and Krissy Pessa of Worcester State. Leading the squad for the second year as the Sportsmanship Coach of the Year is Jeff Pechulis of Westfield State.
For men’s outdoor track and field, Alex Goss of Bridgewater State, Richard Ethier IV of Fitchburg State, Peter Schultz of Massachusetts Maritime, Travon Godette of Westfield State and Sam Weeks of Worcester State receive sportsmanship honors while Jim Jellison of Fitchburg State is the Sportsmanship Coach of the Year.
On the women’s side, Haley Monaghan of Bridgewater State, Shawna Ryan of Fitchburg State, Emma Ethier of Massachusetts Maritime, Naloti Palma of Westfield State and Abigail Danso of Worcester State representing the sportsmanship honorees. Jamie Aubuchon of Fitchburg State was voted as the Sportsmanship Coach of the Year for the team.
Closing out the Sportsmanship Teams is softball. Brittany Cullinane of Bridgewater State, Marissa Gemma of Fitchburg State, Rachel Desrochers of Framingham State, Rachel Quackenbush of MCLA, Brittany Driscoll of Massachusetts Maritime, Jessica Raymond of Salem State, Emilie Manna of Westfield State and Samantha Orner of Worcester State round out the spring winners. Megan Giammalvo of Massachusetts Maritime and Colleen Bannister of Westfield State share the Sportsmanship Coach of the Year honors.
