Westfield State Men, Bridgewater State, Worcester State Women Look to Regain MASCAC Outdoor Track and Field Titles

The Westfield State men and Bridgewater State, Worcester State women look to repeat their success from last year as champions at the 2016 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field/New England Alliance Championships on April 30.

 

Hosted by UMass Dartmouth, the MASCAC schools which includes Bridgewater State, Fitchburg State, Massachusetts Maritime, Westfield State and Worcester State will compete along with six institutions from the Little East Conference as part of the New England Alliance. The meet will begin at 11 am with the shot put on the field and 10,000 meters on the track.


Last season, Westfield State won their second straight MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field title with 219.50 points over runner-up Bridgewater State with 199.50 points. Worcester State finished third with 135 points. Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the finishers in fourth and fifth with 75 and 16 points, respectively. 


Westfield State claimed five individual MASCAC titles, including two for Travon Godette in the javelin and high jump. Zach Delisle earned All-Conference honors in pole vaultwhile the Owls also took home the 4x400 meter relay and 4x800 meter relay crown. 

 

Bridgewater State finished with 11 conference individual titles, including three student-athletes with more than one first place finish. Andy Sukeforth was a dual winner in the 1,500 meter run and 5,000 meters  while Josh Goehring won the 400 meter dash and 800 meter run. Brian Espinosa was the MASCAC champ in the 200 meter dash and long jump.  Connor Foley claimed the 3,000 steeplechase, Joseph Danner-Hicks earned the 100 meter dash crown, Kevin Sawyer the 400 meter hurdles  and Chris Perry in the triple jump. The Bears 4x100 meter relay set a new MASCAC and Alliance record.

 

For Worcester State, the squad took home four individual honors. Terrence Gibson broke the MASCAC and Alliance record in the 110 meter hurdles. Robert White finished first in the hammer throw while Matthew Begley in the shot put and Sam Weeks in the discus throw  earned All-Conference honors.

 

Fitchburg State rounded out the individual honors with one individual title. Eric Ouellette crossed the line first in the 10,000 meter run to earn All-Conference accolades. 

 

For the women at the 2015 meet, Bridgewater State and Worcester State shared the MASCAC title. The Bears and Lancers both claimed the crown with 186 points. Westfield State followed up in third with 161 points while Fitchburg State and Massachusetts Maritime were fourth and fifth with 99 and six points, respectively.

 

Bridgewater State took home five MASCAC titles on Saturday.  Emily Ducharme was the top finisher in the 10,000 meters, Krysta Zbikowski in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and the 4x800 meter relay team earned a new MASCAC record. On the field side, Samantha Richner earned MASCAC All-Conference with a first place finish in the high jump while Ariele Krevosky took the top spot in the triple jump.

 

For Worcester State, the team collected seven individual crowns. Alyssa Jasper was a champion in three events: 200 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles and javelin.  Alexandria McMahon was a dual winner in the 400 meter dash and 400 meter hurdles while Amanda Caldarone was MASCAC champ in the long jump.  The Lancers were the top finishers in the 4x400 meter relay as well.

 

Westfield State claimed seven individual crowns, including double honors for Jessie Cardin and Naloti Palma. Cardin finished first in the 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters while Palma earned a new MASCAC and Alliance record in the discus and first in the shot put. Ashley Craig grabbed a new MASCAC record in the pole vault while teammate Julianna Miller was MASCAC champ in the hammer throw. The Owls also were the top team to cross the line in the 4x100 meter relay.

 

Fitchburg State rounded out the top individual winners with two honors. Arthina Robert was the top conference finisher in the 100 meter dash and Jenae Harrison claimed the MASCAC crown in the 800 meter run.
