
Buzzards Bay, MA --- 86 winter and spring student-athletes have earned MASCAC All-Academic honors as announced by league publicist Jim Seavey. This past spring 437 total student-athletes were selected by the conference as the Lancers were among top three schools in the MASCAC to receive the prestigious accolade.
To be named to the all-academic squad a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester based grade point average during the fall semester.
The MASCAC now honors its student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom on three occasions during the course of the academic year in fall, winter and spring. Should a winter student-athlete have a good second semester, they will be honored as additions to the winter all-academic team.
"We are extremely proud of the success that our student-athletes have had on both the playing field and in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Sue Chapman.
Westfield State led the way with 137, followed by Bridgewater State's total of 99 while the Blue and Gold's total was in third place among the institutions in the conference.
Among Worcester State student-athletes, the MASCAC Outdoor Champion women's indoor track team had 30 of its 41 members honored while the MASCAC Regular Season Softball Champion squad had 10 of its 15 earn all-academic laurels. Eight of 16 women's lacrosse players were also recognized.
With seven additions to the ice hockey team, 19 of the squads 32 members have been garnered with MASCAC All-Academic honors for their achievements in both semesters of play.
The nations oldest men's and women's Division III conference, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State, Fitchburg State, Framingham State, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State, Westfield State and Worcester State while UMass Dartmouth and Plymouth State affiliate in the sport of ice hockey.
