WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women’s cross country team has been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic accomplishments in the fall 2015 semester.

"This award is a solid tribute to the academic prowess of these student-athletes,” commented head coach Gary Jusseaume. “There's a great deal of team pride in achieving this honor. Earning this award is team driven and an important team goal. It underscores the significance of personal dedication toward academic and athletic excellence."

This is the Worcester State women’s cross country team’s fourth consecutive year that they have been honored this award.

Not only was the Worcester State team honored as a whole, but freshman women’s cross country runner, Mia Rogers (N. Dighton, Mass.) was honored individually as a USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic recipient.

"Mia is the first individual member of the Worcester State women's Cross Country team to earn a coveted individual All-Academic Scholar Athlete Award from the USTFCCCA,” stated Jusseaume. “Mia has distinguished herself her freshman year as an intrepid athlete and an excellent student. I and the team are proud of her accomplishment as a celebrated Worcester State student-athlete."

In total, there were 352 women from 207 teams and 268 men from 151 teams who nabbed USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. To earn that distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and finish in the top 25 percent at their respective regional.
