The football team will kick-off its year with hosting Assumption on Friday, September 4 at 7 PM before they entertain WPI on, Friday September 11 and travel to Nichols on Friday, September 18 to round out its non-conference schedule. WSC’s match-up against the Greyhounds will mark the first time the two schools have faced off against one another since 1984 when the two squads were club sports and they played for the United Commercial Travelers Cup.
They open their New England Football Conference slate with a visit to Mass Maritime on September 26 before homecoming weekend against Framingham State on October 3. After an October 10 visit to Castine, ME to play Maine Maritime the Lancers will host three of their last four which includes Fitchburg (Oct. 17), Coast Guard (Oct. 24) and Westfield State (Nov. 7). WSC will host six of ten games this season overall as their last trip away from Worcester will be at Bridgewater State on October 31.
The women’s soccer team leads off the fall
season with a September 1 home date against Colby-Sawyer before
they take on four straight NEWMAC opponents with Clark (Sept. 5)
and WPI (Sept. 15) at home while MIT and Wheaton are away from the
confines of Coughlin Stadium. On September 19 the Lancers open
MASCAC play with a short trip up 190 for a matchup against
Fitchburg State before they face off against MCLA for their first
home conference game the next weekend on September 26.
The non-conference schedule will feature every team from last
season including visits to Plymouth State (Sept. 22), Johnson &
Wales (Oct. 14) and UMass Darmouth (Oct. 27) while the
squad will host Keene State and 2008 second-round NCAA participant
Western Connecticut on September 30 and October 8, respectively.
The Lancers will also play their last three conference games
against Westfield State (Oct. 16), Mass Maritime (Oct. 24) and
Salem State (Oct. 31) at home to wrap up the regular season.
Women’s
Soccer Schedule
The men’s soccer team opens up their
schedule against cross-town rival WPI on September 1. The contest
looks to be a warm up as they will play again in the Union College
tournament and face 2008 NCAA participant RPI in the first round
and the Dutchmen in the second on September 4-5. After visits
to St Joes of Maine (Sept. 10) and Southern Maine (Sept.
12) the Lancers will entertain NESCAC semifinalist Trinity on
September 16 and open MASCAC play with Fitchburg State on September
19 at home.
The rest of the slate will include visits to Keene State on
September 23 and NCAA participant Clark on September 30. Over the
next eight games the Lancers will host Framingham State (Oct. 3),
Western Connecticut (Oct. 7), Bridgewater State (Oct. 10), and
Becker before they start a four game road trip to round up their
regular season. The men’s soccer team play 11 of their 19
games out of town this season.
Men’s Soccer
Schedule
After opening with an away match-up against Clark on September 3,
the women’s field hockey squad will play in
the Zenaty Invitational at Springfield and face off against SUNY
Brockport in the first round on September 5. In the consolation or
championship game the Lancers will face either WNEC or 2008 NEWMAC
champion Springfield.
On September 12 WSC will open Little East play with Westfield State
at Westfield before they open up their first home game against
Fitchburg State on September 19. The team’s non-conference
slate will also include visits to Anna Maria (Sept. 15), Becker
(Sept. 29) and 2008 CCC champion New England College (Oct. 15). The
field hockey team plays four of their last five games at Coughlin
Stadium which includes home games against Keene State (Oct. 17),
Plymouth State (Oct. 23), Nichols (Oct. 28) and Eastern Connecticut
(Oct. 31).
Field Hockey
Schedule
The women’s volleyball team starts off its
season in the two-day five-team Regis Tournament on September 5-6
before the Lancers head to Clark the following
week on for Worcester City Tournament on September 12.
After road matches against Anna Maria (Sept. 17) and
UMass-Boston (Sept. 22) the squad will entertain for the first
time on September 24 versus WNEC.
The Lancers will open MASCAC play with a tri-match against MCLA and
Mass Maritime on September 26 at Mass Maritime. The other
tournaments that WSC will be participating in include the MidCoast
Classic at Bowdoin on October 2-3, the BSC Halloween Classic on
October 30-31 and one more tournament may be on the horizon as
well.
With only four home games scheduled this season, the squad will
host Southern Maine on September 19, WNEC on September
24, Becker on October 1 and Salem State on October 15.
Both the men’s and women’s cross
country teams look to get their season underway at
Roger Williams (September 12) and UMass-Dartmouth (September 19)
before the Lancers look to try to end WPI’s dominant run at
the Worcester City Meet on September 26. With warm up matches at
the Tri-States Championships at CCRI and at the Emmanuel Saints
Invitational at Franklin Park, the MASCAC Championships will be
held on October 24 at Stanley Park in Westfield.
WSC will also compete in the New England Alliance Championships on
October 31, the ECAC Championships on November 7 and the New
England Regional’s on November 14.
Women's
Cross Country Schedule
The women’s tennis team kicks off its
independent schedule with home matches against Newbury on September
5 and Plymouth State on September 8 before they play their next
three on the road. After that the next part of the schedule
includes a string of three matches as the host which will include
Nichols (Sept. 24), MCLA (Sept. 26) and UMass-Dartmouth (Sept. 29).
The WSC closes out the season with three games on the road with the
last one at Clark on October 30.
Women's Tennis
Schedule
Coming off a solid spring the men’s golf
team will head to Elms at Chicopee Country Club to start off its
season on September 15. The Lancers will then compete at Williams
(Sept. 19-20), Middlebury (Sept. 26-27) and at the ECAC
Championships (Oct. 4-5) for a string of three consecutive two-day
tournaments. WSC will then play at Rhode Island College (Oct. 9)
and at Nichols (Oct. 10) as a prelude to the New England Tournament
(Oct. 18-20) at Captains Country Club in Brewster, MA to wrap up
the season.
