Fall Schedules Released By Athletic Department

The football team kicks off its 26th varsity season with a Friday night game against Anna Maria on September 3 before they head to WPI the following Saturday on September 11 for a 1 PM contest against the Engineers. Worcester State concludes their non-conference schedule with a road rivalry game against Nichols on Friday, September 17. Anna Maria goes into its second varsity season in search of a win after they went 0-9 in their inaugural campaign. The Blue and Gold look to end a seven-game losing drought to the Crimson and Gray and avenge a tough 21-20 setback last season to the Bison.

The Lancers open their New England Football Conference (NEFC) schedule with a home game against Westfield State on September 25 at 1:30. Worcester State continues with NEFC champion Maine Maritime in Castine, ME on October 2 and then entertain Mass Maritime the next Saturday at noon. Two road games against Bridgewater State (Oct. 16) and Framingham State (Nov. 6) sandwich a pair of home contests against Coast Guard (Oct. 23) and Fitchburg State (Oct. 30). The 1:30 game against Fitchburg is apart of the college's homecoming festivities.

Football Schedule

 

The women's soccer team opens the fall with a September 1 road trip to Colby-Sawyer before they take on four consecutive NEWMAC opponents in a two week stretch. NCAA participant Wheaton (Sept. 4) and NEWMAC tournament champion MIT (Sept. 7) visit Coughlin Field before the Lancers head across town to Clark (Sep. 11) and WPI (Sep. 15). The Lancers travel to MCLA for their conference opener in a rematch of last years MASCAC semifinals. Worcester State was bounced from the tournament in a 3-2 setback in 2009.

The non-conference schedule includes Plymouth State (Sept. 21), regular season Little East champion Keene State (Sept. 29), Western Connecticut (Oct. 5), Johnson & Wales (Oct. 13) and UMass Dartmouth (Oct. 26). The matchups against the Panthers, Wildcats and Corsairs are all in Worcester. Worcester State begins their MASCAC schedule at home against Framingham State on September 25 and on October 30 the Lancers entertain Fitchburg State as part of the homecoming festivities at 10 AM to close out their regular season.

Women’s Soccer Schedule

 

The men's soccer team begins play the first week of September with a road game on the 1st against WPI and then that weekend the squad takes a weekend trip to the Union College Tournament. Their opponents will be NCAA second-round participant RPI on Friday (Sept. 3) and Liberty League tournament runner-up Union on Saturday (Sept. 4). The squad continues its non-conference slate with home games against GNAC tournament champion St. Joseph's of Maine (Sept. 9) and Southern Maine on (Sept. 11) before they head to Hartford, CT for a road match against Trinity on September 14. The Lancers open MASCAC play against MCLA on September 18 at 1 PM.

Other non-conference matchups include Little East co-regular season champion Keene State (Sept. 22), Clark (Sept. 29), Western Connecticut (Oct. 6) and UMass Dartmouth (Oct. 20). The Lancers host three of their last five at home which include conference matchups against Westfield State (Oct. 8), Mass Maritime (Oct. 16) and Salem State (Oct. 23).

Men’s Soccer Schedule



The women's field hockey team opens their schedule at home against Clark on September 2 at 7 PM before they head to the the Zenaty Invitational at Springfield as they take on the Pride on September 4 at 11 AM. The winner or loser takes on either Southern Maine or SUNY Brockport on Sunday. Last season the Lancers defeated Brockport 2-1 in overtime before they lost 3-1 to the Pride in the championship.

The Lancers will kick off Little East Conference play with Westfield State at home on September 11 at 11 AM. The squad will host Anna Maria (Sept. 16), NECC champion Becker (Sept. 23) and ECAC New England participant New England College (Oct. 14) as part of their non-conference schedule. The other two non-league games include trips to WPI (Sept. 21) and Commonwealth Conference tournament champion Nichols (Oct. 27). Three of the last four games are on the road as their last game at Coughlin Field will be on October 20 against Western Connecticut.

Field Hockey Schedule

 

The women's volleyball team opens the season at the Regis Pride Invitational on September 4-5 before they head to Boston to play Simmons on September 7. On September 12 the Lancers head to Assumption for the Worcester City Tournament and they will play WPI in the opening round at 11 AM.

Worcester State will also play in the Eastern Connecticut Tournament on October 29-30 and the Bridgewater State Quad Classic on October 30 to wrap up the regular season. On October 23 the Blue and Gold will head to Rhode Island College for a tri-match against the hosts and Southern Maine. Other non-conference opponents include Anna Maria (Sept. 16), Becker (Sept. 30) and Wentworth (Oct. 26).

The squad will only have six games at home as they entertain Bay Path on September 21 and Newbury on September 23. The Lancers will host Bridgewater State on October 5 and a tri-match with Westfield State and Framingham State on October 16. The regular season home finale will take place against Keene State at 7 PM on October 20.

Women's Volleyball Schedule

 

Both the men's and women's cross country teams look to get their season underway at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Fitchburg State on Friday, September 10 and then the next Saturday the Lancers head to the Shriners Invitational at UMass Dartmouth on September 18. On September 25, Worcester State looks to end WPI's dominant run at the Worcester City meet at Moore State Park in Paxton. Worcester State will also run at the Tri-States Invitational at CCRI (October 2) and the Emmanuel Saints Invitational at Franklin Park (October 15).

The MASCAC Championships will be hosted by Westfield State at Stanley Park on October 23 before the Blue and Gold will use Moore State Park to their advantage to host the New England Alliance Championships on October 30 on homecoming. The Lancers will participate in the ECAC Championships at Colt State Park on November 6 and the New England Regionals on November 13 at Mount Greylock in Williams, MA.

The women's tennis team will enter the Little East Conference this season as its eighth member. The Lancers begin the season with a road match at Newbury on September 5 before they head up to Plymouth State for their LEC opener on September 8. After opening at home with conference opponent Rhode Island College on September 11, the Blue and Gold shoot over to Becker for a 3:30 match on September 14. Three out of the next four matches are conference opponents to close out September as the Lancers host Salem State (Sept. 16) and Bridgewater State (Sept. 20).

Worcester State will close out their October schedule with three out of the last five at home which include Southern Maine (Oct. 2), Western Connecticut (Oct. 12) and Wentworth (Oct. 16). The two road matches will be Anna Maria (Oct. 8) and city rival Clark (Oct. 14).

 

Women's Tennis Schedule

 

Led by All-American Bob Bruso who will be entering his senior year, the men's golf team opens with the Middlebury Invitational on September 18-19 at the Ralph Myhre golf course and the Williams Invitational on September 25-26 at Taconic Country Club. After the Blazer Fall Invitational at Chicopee Country Club on September 29, the squad then travels to the ECAC Championships on October 2-3 at a course to be announced.

Worcester State closes the season with the Westfield State Invitational on October 9 and the three-day New England Intercollegiate Golf Championships at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, MA. Last season Bruso was second overall after the first day of competition.
