Fall Schedules Released By Athletic Department

 

The football team starts off its 2013 campaign with Anna Maria on Friday, September 7 at 1 o'clock before hosting WPI for the 21st time on Friday, September 13 at 7 PM.

The Lancers then head to NCAA Division III Tournament participant Bridgewater State to tango with the Bears on Friday, September 20 at 7 o'clock to kick-off their MASCAC slate.

After WSU hosts Mass Martitime on Sept. 28, they come out of the bye week with Fitchburg State (Oct. 13) and UMass Dartmouth (Oct. 20) on the road. Homecoming the following week will be against Western Connecticut on Oct. 28 at 1:30 in the first-ever meeting against the Colonials.

November starts off with a road matchup against Plymouth State for the first time since the 1989 season. The final two games might play in the favor for the Blue and Gold when they entertain league rivals Westfield State (Nov. 9) and Framingham State (Nov. 16) to close out their inaugural season in the MASCAC.

The women’s soccer team begins their season with three road contests, featuring ECAC quarterfinalist Albertus Magnus, on Sunday Aug. 31 at 2:30 and NCAA Division III Tournament “Sweet 16” participant MIT on the road.

After playing fellow city rivals WPI (Wed, Sept. 11) and Clark (Sat, Sept. 14) at Coughlin Field, the Lancers square off with MCLA to start off MASCAC play on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 1 PM in North Adams.

October opens up with two strong opponents as the Blue and Gold face Little East Conference Tournament finalist Western Connecticut on Oct 2 at 7 PM before they travel to Bridgewater State on Saturday, Oct. 5 for the first time since being eliminated by the Bears in the league tournament semifinals this past fall.

After squaring off at NAC Tournament finalist Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, Oct. 16, WSU finishes off the campaign with three consecutive road games and the regular season finale against Fitchburg State at home on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The six-team MASCAC Tournament starts up the following week with the first-round games being played on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

 

Women’s Soccer Schedule

 
 
 

The men's soccer squad opens their season in the Worcester City Tournament at home with Clark on Friday, Aug. 30 at 4 PM before finishing the four-team competition off with a battle at WPI on Sunday, Sept. 1 at noon..

After trying to vie for the 2013 City Tournament title, the Lancers take on four consecutive non-conference opponents starting with Rhode Island College at home on Wednesday, Sept.  4 followed by Trinity at Coughlin Field (Wed, Sept. 11), a visit to Southern Maine (Sat, Sept. 14) and a trip to Keene State (Wed, Sept. 18).

Saturday, Sep. 21 marks the beginning of MASCAC play as men’s soccer entertains MCLA at 2 PM.

To jump start the month of October, the Lancers will take on Elms, who comes off their first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament on Tuesday, Oct 1. The Lancers end the season with a match-up against the Little East Tournament runner-up UMass-Dartmouth on Tues, Oct. 29 and Fitchburg State on the road on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The six-team MASCAC Tournament starts up the following week with the first-round games being played on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The overall slate features nine home games and five LEC opponents.

 

Men’s Soccer Schedule

 
 
 

The field hockey team commences their 2013 campaign in the friendly confines of Coughlin Field with a home matchup against Elms on Saturday, August 31 at 12 PM and Salve Regina on Saturday, September 7.

Worcester State then takes on NECC Tournament Champion Anna Maria on Thursday, Sept. 12 before opening Little East Conference play with Plymouth State on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11 AM. The Lancers end September against local rivals WPI at home (Tues, Sept 17) and Becker in nearby Leicester (Tues, Sept 24).

During the next month, the Blue and Gold entertain defending LEC Tournament Champion UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Oct 1 and perennial league contender Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Following a stretch of five of eight on the road, the squad ends the regular season with a pair of home match-ups in the form of Fitchburg State on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The eight-team LEC Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

 

Field Hockey Schedule

 
 
 

The women's volleyball squad kicks off their season at Western Connecticut with Brandeis on Friday, August 31. After taking on the Judges again the following day, they finish off their trip to Danbury with the Colonials.

The next weekend, the Blue and Gold will then participate in the 28th Worcester City Tournament at Clark on Saturday, Sept. 7.

After taking part in the Wesleyan Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14, the Lancers open up MASCAC play with a home meeting with Mass Maritime on Tues, Sept. 17. WSU heads to Plymouth State that weekend (Saturday, Sept. 21) to face off against Rhode Island College and the hosting Panthers.

WSU will also play in the two-day Bear Classic at Coast Guard on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12. Other non-conference October opponents include Wentworth (Oct. 26) and ECAC Division III New England Champion Western New England (Oct. 31) on the road before the squad closes out their campaign with a home tri-match against Salem State and Daniel Webster on Satuday, Nov. 2.

The first-round of the MASCAC Tournament starts on Wednesday, Nov. 6 while the semifinals and championship will be hosted by the top seed on Sat, Nov. 9.

 

Women's Volleyball Schedule

 
 
 

The men's cross country team will start off their season at the Jim Sheehan Invitational on Friday, September 6 while the women's cross country team competes at the Smith Invitational the following day. After competing at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21, the Lancers will host the annual Worcester City Meet at Moore State Park on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Other meets include the Tri-State Invitational at CCRI (Oct. 5), the James Early Invitational at Westfield State's Stanley Park (Oct. 13), and the Western New England Invitational on Saturday, October 19.

The MASCAC/New England Alliance Championship will be hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday, November 2. The Blue and Gold will also participate at the ECAC Division III New England Championships at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI (Nov. 9) and the NCAA Division III New England qualifier will be at Southern Maine on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The women's tennis team plays at home twice in their first week of the season starting off with Gordon on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 12 PM and Newbury on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 3:30.

The Lancers open Little East Tournament play with UMass Boston on the road at 3:30 before a three-game home stand that includes MCLA (Sept. 17), defending LEC Tournament Champion Bridgewater State (Sept. 21) and Salem State (Sept. 24).

WSU also takes on Clark on Thursday, Sept. 26 while entertaining UMass Dartmouth (Oct. 2), Plymouth State (Oct. 12) and Johnson & Wales (Oct. 15) before ending the schedule with a road trip to Southern Maine (Oct. 19).

The top six squads in the nine-team LEC make the tournament. The conference quarterfinals start on Tuesday Oct. 22, the semifinals continue on Thurs, Oct. 24 and the championship will be at the highest remaining seed on Saturday, Oct. 26.

 

Women's Tennis Schedule

 
 
 

The men's golf team begins their schedule with three consecutive tournaments featuring the top teams in the area. The starting five open with the Trinity Invitational on Sept. 7-8 with the first round at Tuxnis and the second day at Blackledge. The Blue and Gold also will play at the Middlebury Invitational (Fri-Sat, Sept. 14-15) at the Ralph Myhre campus course and at the Williams Invitational at Taconic (Fri-Sat, Sept. 21-22).

Other one-day tournaments include the Elms Fall Blazer Invitaitonal at Westover on Wednesday, Oct. 2 and the Emmanual Quad Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at the William Devine Golf Course.

The Lancers will take part at the two-day GNAC Championships on Sat-Sun, Oct. 19-20 at Cranston hosted by Johnson & Wales for a chance to compete at the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Tournament in the spring.

WSU closes the season with the NEIGA Tournament at Captains on Sun-Mon, Oct. 27-28.
