Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior Alex Teal (Malden, MA) has been tabbed MASCAC Pitcher of the Week as he earned the 6-0 victory in game two of a double-header sweep of Mass Maritime this past weekend.

With the sweep the Lancers improved their overall record to 14-17 and 6-4 with the victories, the Blue and Gold have leap frogged into a virtual tie with Westfield State for second place in the conference.

Teal ran his record to 5-4 with the triumph as he went all seven innings, surrendering just five hits while striking out 10 and issuing just one free pass.

With one week remaining until postseason play begins, Teal stands alone atop the MASCAC in several categories including strikeouts (55), earned run average (1.33), innings pitched (54.1) and he is part of a four-way tie for first in wins with five.

Teal also blanked MCLA with a seven-hitter in a 4-0 victory on April 6 and he was named to the Division III National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Honor Roll on March 3 for fanning 11 in a seven-inning 3-1 triumph over SUNY Purchase to open the season.

Among one of the best starters in New England, Teal is currently ranked 34th in Division III in ERA and seventh in the region. Along with Pat Riley (S. Strafford, VT) of Castleton State, he is one of two pitchers in among regional Division III schools with six complete games to his credit and one of 20 nationwide.

Teal will most likely be handed the rock in Worcester State's final MASCAC match-up Saturday when the Lancers host Westfield State which has implications on the seeding in next week's conference tournament. The Blue and Gold also entertain Newbury today and Fisher on Thursday at 4 o'clock.
