Baseball Falls To Fisher 5-2 In Non-League Setback

 

Worcester, MA --- Fisher senior Ramcy Lora (Lawrence, MA) blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to help lift the Falcons past Worcester State, 5-2, in non-conference baseball action this afternoon from the Lyons Diamond. 

The Falcons (21-7) staked an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first after sophomore Dominic Zaher (Chelmsford, MA) crossed home on ground ball to second base after doubling to start the frame.

Fisher added to their lead in the fourth when Lora ripped a two-run blast over the left field fence - his first of the campaign - with a pair down in the frame.

The visitors also recorded an unearned run in the fifth for the 4-0 advantage when junior Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) following a misplayed ground ball by the third baseman.

The Lancers (7-9) responded in the bottom half of the fifth with a pair of runs to cut the deficit in half at 4-2. 

Junior Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA) recorded a run producing single through the left side and classmate Jeff Bolio (Oxford, MA) followed with an RBI base-knock of his own, two batters later.

Worcester State threatened to tie the score in the bottom of the six as they loaded the bases, however, the Fisher bullpen was able to bare down and get out of the jam to preserve the lead.

The Falcons added an insurance run in the seventh for the 5-2 final on a RBI ground out by senior Yhonathan Santelises (Lynn, MA). 

Each team recorded 10 hits apiece while Worcester State left 12 runners on base, seven of which were in scoring position.

Bolio finished the afternoon 2-for-4 at the dish with an RBI while sophomore Steve Wallace (Auburn, MA) and junior David Ruggiero (Peabody, MA) combined to go 4-for-9 with a run scored as the table setters for the Lancers. Ruggiero also finished with a first-inning three-bagger for WSU.

Freshman Brian Bonacquisti (Pittsfield, MA) also collected a pair of hits for the Blue and Gold.

Zahler, Lebrun and junior Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) all recorded two base-knocks each for Fisher as Zahler belted a duo of doubles for the visitors.

Junior John Tangherlini (Lincoln, RI) improved his record to 6-1 with the win. Tangherlini threw six innings surrendering two  runs (one earned) on nine hits while striking out six and walking two. 

Falcon sophomore Christopher Cantu (Alamo, TX) recorded his fourth save of the season pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Lancer freshman Andrew Wells (Methuen, MA) was dealt the loss and saw his record fall to 1-3 after giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits with six punch outs and a pair of free passes. 

Worcester State will play UMass Boston tomorrow at 3:30 as a warm-up to their weekend road trip to take on Mass Maritime on Saturday at 12 PM. Fisher opens up a four-game series at Briarcliff with a high noon start to their twin bill this Saturday.
