George Helps Lead Baseball Past Fisher, 11-3

 

Worcester, MA --- Junior Zach George (Attleboro, MA) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in to pace Worcester State past Fisher College, 11-3, in non-conference baseball action this evening at the Lyons Diamond.

With the win the Lancers improve to 19-14 on the year and the Falcons drop to 32-14 with the loss.

Each squad plated a run in the first inning for the early 1-1 score.

Fisher got on the board first when junior Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) registered a sacrifice fly in the top half of the frame.

George answered the call with an RBI double down the left field line to score freshman Adam Barry (Auburn, MA) who walked one batter earlier.

The Blue and Gold added a pair of unearned tallies in the bottom of the second when freshman Brian Bonacquisti (Pittsfield, MA) crossed home on classmate Nick Cardoni's (Oxford, MA) deep fly ball to score a run after reaching on an error to start the inning.

Junior Jeff Bolio (Oxford, MA) attempted to take third on the throw toward the plate and continued on after a mishandled throw allowed him to advance home for the 3-1 score.

The Lancers struck again in the bottom half of the sixth for a trio of scores highlighted by RBI singles from junior Nick Gikas (Danvers, MA) and Cardoni making the score 6-1.

After George plated a pair with a two-bagger in the bottom of the seventh, WSU ballooned their margin by plating three more in the eighth for the commanding 11-1 cushion.

Senior Joe Carlier (Rockland, MA) recorded a run producing ground out and George and Bonacquisti hit RBI base-knocks for Worcester State.

Fisher didn't go away quietly in the top of the ninth as freshman Adam Lucey (Malden, MA) ripped a double to left field to score a run and senior Ramcy Lora (Lawrence, MA) grounded out to first scoring another for the final score.

WSU outhit the visitors 11-7 in the game.

Freshman Andrew Wells (Methuen, MA) picked up the win on the bump tossing eight and 1/3 innings allowing three runs on seven hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts to improve to 4-3 on the season.

Fisher sophomore Adam Somers (Framingham, MA) was dealt the loss after surrendering two unearned runs on one hit in his one inning of work. Somers falls to 2-2 with the setback.

Cardoni ended the contest a pair of base-knocks with a run scored and two batted in.

Sophomore Dominic Zaher (Chelmsford, MA) and junior Davidson Peguero (Boston, MA) each finished 2-for-4 in addition to a double and run scored on the afternoon.

Both teams return to action with conference twin bills on Saturday afternoon. WSU travels to Salem State at 12 PM while Fisher returns home to entertain Briarcliffe at 3 PM.
