Baseball Unveils 2020 Schedule

2020 Worcester State University Baseball Schedule

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State University baseball team unveiled its 2020 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, just 11 days in advance of its season opener.

The schedule consists of 40 regular season contests, including 21 games at Lyons Diamond and 21 games against Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents.

Worcester State’s season gets underway on Saturday, February 29 with a road matchup against Anna Maria College at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough. Worcester State’s first official home game takes place a week later on March 7 against Dean College, but the game will also be played at NEBC.

The Lancers will head to Florida from March 14 through March 21 for their annual spring break trip. Highlighting the eight-game swing through the Sunshine State is a contest against nationally-ranked UMass Boston on March 20. The Beacons reached the College World Series a season ago, and are one of Worcester State’s four opponents that competed in last season’s NCAA Tournament.

Upon returning home, Worcester State will open MASCAC play on March 27 against Bridgewater State for the first game of the season at Lyons Diamond.

Worcester State will hold Senior Day on Saturday, May 2, when the Lancers host reigning MASCAC champions Westfield State for a home doubleheader. Three days later, the Lancers will conclude the regular season with a matchup against MIT on May 5.

The Lancers, led by head coach Dr. Dirk Baker in his 25th season, return 21 players from their roster a season ago, including nearly its entire starting nine. Notable vacancies remain at first base, shortstop, and in the bullpen, with all 10 newcomers in contention for the open slots in the lineup.
