
WESTFIELD, Mass. - Four Worcester State University baseball student-athletes earned All-Conference honors as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference released its end-of-year awards on Wednesday afternoon.
Senior Pat Galvin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was named to the MASCAC’s First Team All-Conference in the outfield position. Shortstop Chris Ausiello (Tyngsboro, Mass.), outfielder Thomas DiBattista (Hudson, Mass.), and designated hitter Sean Devin (Lynn, Mass.) all received Second Team honors.
Galvin ranked second on the Lancers in 2021 with a .350 batting average, with 14 runs scored and nine runs batted in. He also recorded nine doubles on the season, ranking second in the MASCAC, with one home run and three stolen bases. Galvin reached base safely in 18 of his 23 games played with a trio of three-hit games on the year.
Ausiello batted .284 on the season and had a flair for the dramatic with a pair of walk-off singles on the year. The sophomore tied for second on the team with 11 runs batted in on the season, while crossing home plate 13 times. On the basepaths, Ausiello swiped four bases in his rookie campaign.
DiBattista ranked third in the MASCAC in stolen bases with 11, and was never caught stealing, unlike the two players ahead of him. DiBattista batted .324 on the season, and was tied with Ausiello for second on the team with 11 runs batted in. Worcester State’s primary center fielder, DiBattista recorded just one error in 64 chances on the season for an impressive .984 fielding percentage.
Devin had a breakout year at the dish for Worcester State, batting .281 with a team-high 16 runs batted in, two home runs, and nine runs scored on the season. He finished a single shy of the cycle in a win over Fitchburg State on May 2, which included a second triple and an intentional walk after a double, triple, and a home run.
Taking home the major awards from the MASCAC were Player of the Year Zachary May from Fitchburg State, Rookie of the Year Scott Nosky from Framingham State, Pitcher of the Year David Kerns from Bridgewater State, and Coach of the Year Shawn Manfredo from Fitchburg State.
