Lancers Selected Fifth in MASCAC Preseason Coaches Poll

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Baseball team has been selected fifth in the 2024 preseason coaches’ poll as voted on by the conference coaches.

The Lancers received 27 points from the voting after ending the previous season with an 11-10 mark in the conference schedule. Returning to the mound this season is 2022 NCAA statistical ERA leader senior Ben Smith (Bourne, MA) who pitched for over 44 innings last year, registering a 3.07 ERA, 48 strikeouts and a complete game.

Grabbing the top spot in the voting was Bridgewater State with 49 total points and seven first place votes followed behind with 39 points, and a single first place vote, Westfield State. Mass Maritime would finish in third with 34 points, just a single point ahead of Framingham State at 33.

In sixth, with 20 points was Fitchburg State, who ended five points ahead of Salem State. Rounding out the conference voting slate was MCLA with seven points.

Worcester State opens their season on March 2nd at 12pm when they host the Wheaton Lyons at the New England Baseball Complex.
