Melville Selected ECAC Division III Northeast All-Star

Worcester, MA --- Worcester State College junior defensive end Steve Melville has been named one of six from the New England Football Conference Bogan Division to be selected as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast All-Star. Melville is the first Lancer to receive the nod to the team since defensive lineman Anthony Figueiredo was named to the squad in 2006.

This distinction marks Melville's fourth accolade this season after he was tabbed to both the First-Team of the All-NEFC Bogan Division and All-Worcester Area team and he was also honored on the  Northeast Region Third Team by D3Football.com.

Trinity quarterback Eric McGrath was selected as the ECAC Northeast Player of the Year while first-year Tufts defensive lineman Donnie Simmons was distinguished as the Rookie of the Year. The ECAC will honor the respective regional players and rookies of the year from the Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest at an awards banquet at the end of February.

The NESCAC led the way with 11 players on the team while the NEFC Boyd Division had eight. Plymouth State had the most on the squad with four players while Trinity, Williams and Tufts each had three.

Melville, who hails from Merrimac, MA, led the Lancers with 47 tackles (32 solo) and a staggering 18.5 tackles for a loss with 7.5 sacks, which were both second in the NEFC. Melville's marks of total tackles for a loss and per game were both tied for 14th and 12th, respectively in the NCAA Division III.

WSC ended their season with a 2-8 record under 26th year head coach Brien Cullen.
