Seven Student Athletes Tabbed to NEFC All-Academic Team

Worcester, MA --- Seven Worcester State student athletes have been selected to the New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic Team as announced by league publicist Roger Crosley last week. 10 of the 16 teams in the conference had ten or more recipients on the squad while MIT had the most with 32 student-athletes.

To be named to the all-academic team a student-athlete must have completed three semesters at the same institution and have maintained a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

The representatives from WSC included sophomore's Brennan Green (Brimsfield, MA-DB), Patrick Moriarty (Worcester, MA-LB), Tyler Russell (Princeton, MA-LB), Gil Ynostrova (Billerica, MA-QB), juniors Greg Benoit (Dorcester, MA-LB) and Steve Melville (Merrimac, MA-DL) along with senior Craig Willett (Fall River, MA-OL).

Melville was a first-team All NEFC and third-team D3football.com All-Northeast selection while he was also a second-team ECAC New England All-Star. Willet was one of 564 players named last month Hampshire Society Member for maintaining a 3.2 GPA as a senior by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF).

The football team ended the 2008 season at 2-8 under 26th year head coach Brien Cullen.
