St. Laurent, Blakeslee Named To D3football.com Team of the Week

Worcester, MA --- Senior defensive end Ray St. Laurent (Shrewsbury, MA) and sophomore punter Alex Blakeslee (Shrewsbury, MA) have each been selected for D3football Team of the Week honors for their respective performances in their 27-13 win over New England Football Conference Bogan Division Champion Framingham State this past weekend.

St. Laurent registered a game-best 10 tackles (8 solo) with two sacks and a pass breakup to help earn head coach Brien Cullen his 150th career win.

St. Laurent, who leads the NEFC in sacks, is sixth in Division III in total sacks (9.5) and 14th in average sacks per game (0.95).  His sack total this season is the highest since Russ Watson finished the season with 12.5 in 2001.

St. Laurent is also second on the squad in tackles with 57 (39 solo) as he tops the team in tackles for a loss (13 for 66 yards) with a forced fumble and one recovery.

Blakeslee averaged 49.5 yards on six punts including two that landed inside the 20 as he helped propel WSU's defensive effort. He also broke the single-game mark for punting average and his 80-yard blast in the second quarter eclipsed the previous school record by seven yards.

This season Blakselee is third in the NEFC in average punting with 37.8 yards per punt.

Senior linebacker Cameron Jones was also honored this season by D3football.com on September 27 for his performance in WSU's 31-30 triumph over Coast Guard.

Under the guidance of Cullen in his 26th season at the varsity level (29th with team), Worcester State has posted their first winning regular season since 2004 as they went 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Bogan Division.

The Lancers will await word on a possible ECAC Bowl game bid when the selections are made at the beginning of next week.
