
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Football team has been selected to finish 9th in this seasons MASCAC Preseason Coaches poll as voted on by the coaches. The Lancers take the helm behind first year head coach Zach Besaw and a breadth of returning talent led by four-year captain John McMasters III on defense, and super senior Deion Osei-Sarpong for the offense.
Last seasons MASCAC Champions, the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs have been selected in the top spot, claiming 76 points and four first place votes. West Conn. is tight on their heals in second with 74 points and rivaling with their own four first place votes. Rounding out the top three is Bridgewater State with two first place votes and 68 points. Framingham State, Plymouth State and Mass Maritime grab the next three spots with 56 points, 49 points and 39 points respectively. Finishing just behind the Buccaneers is Westfield State with 32 points followed by conference newcomer Vermont State- Castleton with 27 points. Worcester finishes with 15 points in the poll jut ahead of Fitchburg State with 13 points.
The Lancers look to challenge in this reshaped MASCAC conference, opening the season on September 6th with a home meeting with cross town rivals WPI at 7pm.
