
Worcester, MA- After a come from behind victory on a wet and slippery Saturday, the Worcester State Football team has been awarded their first MASCAC Player of the Week in senior Nico Holmes (Mansfield, MA). The Lancers defeated Fitchburg State on Saturday 20-14 to claim their second straight victory and to move to 2-0 in MASCAC play.
Holmes registered 151 yards on 27 rushes (5.6 averaged) with touchdowns of 42 and five yards in the Lancers’ come-from-behind win over Fitchburg State. With the team down 14-7 in the third quarter, Holmes rushed 42 yards to tie the game and another touchdown of five yards to give the Lancers the lead and eventual win.
Senior John McMasters III (Raynham, MA) would also receive honorable mention honors on the week after tallying 16 tackles (eight solo), including three tackles for a loss of six yards plus an interception in the Lancers’ 20-14 win over Fitchburg State.
Worcester State Football (2-1, 2-0) is back in action on Saturday in their Homecoming game against Westfield State at 2:30pm. The Homecoming events are also in conjunction with Family Weekend and the 150th anniversary of Worcester State which will find a Carnival, along with numerous other events on campus this weekend.
