Field Hockey Rolls Past Anna Maria, 3-0

Paxton, MA --- Sophomore Sarah Cozzens (Lancaster, MA) had a goal and an assist as the Worcester State College field hockey team defeated Anna Maria College, 3-0, at AMCAT Field on Tuesday night. The Lancers now improve to 2-4 overall, while the AMCATS drop to 0-3.

Goalkeeper Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, MA) did her best to keep AMC in the game, collecting 19 saves on the day. In the process, Boykin became the Anna Maria College program's all-time leader in saves, breaking Rachel Braier's previous mark of 492.

Cozzen's led the way for the Lancers netting both a goal and an assist. Junior Erin Moore (Brimfield, MA) and senior Lesley Hill (Raynham, MA) each contributed a goal, while senior Veronica Farrell (Baldwinville, MA) chipped in with an assist. Goalkeeper Katherine Masterjohn (Warren, MA) was perfect in net, stopping five shots including a breakaway, to earn the shutout victory.

The Lancers got on the board just over 22 minutes into the game on a well designed corner play, as Farrell found Cozzens with an excellent feed for the score.

Worcester State went into half time with a 1-0 lead, holding a 16-3 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corners.

Just under five minutes into the second half Moore took a pass from Cozzens and found the back of the net to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead.

Lesley Hill delivered the final blow on an unassisted tally with less than five minutes to play, giving the Lancers a 3-0 victory.

Worcester State outshot the AMCATS 33-7 during the match and held a commanding 11-1 edge in corners.

The Lancers will play again on Saturday when they host Fitchburg State at 2:30 pm. The AMCATS will also take the field again on Saturday, heading out on the road to face Western New England College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup.
