Framingham State 3, Worcester State 1
Worcester, MA --- Framingham State freshman Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, MA) netted a pair of goals to help lead the Rams to a 3-1 victory over Worcester State in Little East field hockey action this afternoon at Coughlin Stadium.
The first half was gridlocked as both teams had a combined five shots in the opening 15 minutes with Framingham State (6-1, 3-0 LEC) having the 4-1 lead in the category.
The Rams had a good opportunity at 7:24 when sophomore Kayleigh Force (Leominster, MA) had an open look at the cage, but sophomore Amanda Maillet (Saugus, MA) deflected the ball out of the way. The stop was Worcester State's third team defensive save of the season.
Following a FSC timeout, the visitors took control of the period and scored off a rebounded shot attempt by Kristen Sacco (Mendon, MA) for her 10th marker of the year at 28:40.
Six minutes into the second half Framingham State went up 2-0 on a tally notched by freshman Erica Fisher (Putnam Valley, NY) at 40:58 on a feed by Force.
After more back and forth action, the Rams added another goal ten minutes later Fishers second marker of the game as she caught her own rebound in front of the net at 50:48.
Worcester State finally broke the shutout at 58:48 on an unassisted goal by sophomore Samantha Janda (Sterling, MA). Junior Meghan Feehan (Lunenburg, MA) originally hit rocket that ricocheted off a defender to Janda who knocked home the tally.
After the Lancers scored, Framingham State controlled possession of the ball for the rest of the contest. The Rams ended with a 14-6 shot advantage (9-4 on goal) and a 7-6 edge in penalty corners.
FSC junior Allesha Kenyon (Westford, MA) made three saves to improve her record to 6-1 while her counterpart, sophomore Katherine Masterjohn (Warren, MA), collected five stops for Worcester State.
On Monday, the Lancers head west to Leicester for a 3:30 matchup against Becker before they travel to Southern Maine on Wednesday (4 PM). Framingham State will entertain Plymouth State on Wednesday at 4 o'clock.
