Janda Helps Field Hockey Defeat Becker, 4-1

Leicester, MA --- Worcester State took advantage of three first half goals, in route to a 4-1 victory in women's field hockey action.

The Lancers scored their first goal 19:55 into the game, when Sarah Cozzens (Lancaster, MA) tipped a penalty corner into the back of the net.

Becker scored their lone goal 25:46 into the first half, when NECC Rookie of the Week Brooke Cote (Fitchburg, MA) scored through the five hole of Worcester State goalkeeper Katherine Masterjohn (Warren, MA).

Samantha Janda (Sterling, MA) scored two goals in less than three minutes, to put the Lancers up comfortably 3-1 at the half. Molly Cotter (North Easton, MA) put Worcester State ahead 4-1 with an unassisted goal 10:56 into the second half.

Worcester State outshot Becker 18-2 while they held a 19-3 edge in penalty corners and an 11-0 advantage in the second half.

Katherine Masterjohn (Warren, MA) made one save to earn the win for the Lancers. Worcester State improved to 3-6 overall. Becker keeper Nakita Gosselin (Springfield, VT) made eight saves in a losing effort. The Hawks fell to 4-6 on the season.

The Lancers continue Little East play with a 4 PM away contest at Southern Maine on Wednesday.
