Salem State 3, Worcester State 1
Salem, MA --- Katie LaPrad (Spencer, MA) scored a goal and an
assist to lead the Salem State Lady Vikings past the Worcester
State Lancers by a score of 3-1 in a Little East match on Saturday
afternoon.
LaPrad scored her fifth goal of the season at the 14:43 mark of the
first period, to break a 1-1 tie which gave Salem State (5-5, 2-5)
the momentum back after Worcester State (3-9, 0-6) had tied the
game.
Trailing 1-0, Sarah Cozzens (Lancaster, MA) found
the back of the net for the visitors to even the game at the 14:00
mark. However, LaPrad scored the game-winner less than forty five
seconds later on a feed from Karen Atkinson (Reading, MA).
April Rossetti (Saugus, MA) opened up the scoring on an assist from
LaPrad with just over a minute gone by in the opening period to
give the home team a 1-0. Courtney Lynch (North Andover, MA)
increased the lead to two goals right before the half when she
knocked in a penalty shot past Katherine
Masterjohn (Warren, MA).
Masterjohn, who finished with seven saves, had kept the Lancers in
the game early making consecutive saves to keep the deficit at one
goal.
Jess McKenna (Rowley, MA) made three saves to even her record at
5-5 for the Lady Vikings, which had lost four straight.
Both teams held each other scoreless in the second period. Salem
State held a 16-8 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corners.
Salem State is back in action on Thursday October 15th, when they
host St. Joseph's College (ME.) at 6:00 PM. Worcester Sate travels
to Bridgewater State on Monday, October 12th for a 1:00 PM start.
