Worcester, MA --- Sophomore forward Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, MA) registered a pair of goals to help lead Nichols to a 3-0 victory over Worcester State this evening in non-conference women's field hockey action at Coughlin Field.

The Bison, who are ranked #2 in the latest NCAA Field Hockey East Regional Rankings, improve to 15-3 in their regular season finale, while the Lancers slip to 3-15 in the loss.

The games action was gridlocked in the middle of the field with neither team getting a good opportunity at the cage, but Nichols held a 4-2 lead in shots over that stretch. Correia broke a scoreless game as she put the Bison up 1-0 with her 12th goal of the season on an unassisted marker at 22:04.

Nichols tried again twice within the next six minutes, but one attempt went wide and the other was stopped by WSC sophomore keeper Katherine Masterjohn (Warren, MA).

With two minutes remaining in the opening stanza the Lancers had two good chances to knot the game, but the first was rejected by second-year goalie Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, MA) and the second glanced off of Forand's right leg pad out of the circle.

As the two teams came out onto the field for the second period, Nichols fired two quick shots seven minutes into the stanza before junior Eileen Clinton (Londonberry, NH) scored off a rebound of her own shot at 42:27. The Bison continued to stay on the offensive as they remained aggressive and notched the third tally at 50:48 on Correia's second goal as she hit a rocket past Masterjohn as freshman Emily Widdison (Greenfield, MA) added the helper on the play.

The Lancers did a good job of neutralizing the attack as they only allowed one more shot for the last 20 minutes of the contest.

Nichols outshot WSC 13-5 in the game and 6-1 in the final period while they also held a 7-4 edge in corners.

Masterjohn collected six saves in the setback while Forand turned aside two shots.

Both teams will play this Saturday. Worcester State looks for their first win in Little East play as they entertain Eastern Connecticut in their season finale at 10 AM while second seeded Nichols hosts #6 Gordon College in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament at 11 AM.
