Field Hockey Drops Springfield Tournament Consolation Final To Brockport State

Springfield, MA --- Worcester State dropped a their third-straight one-goal decision this morning as they were handed a 1-0 setback by Brockport State this morning in the consolation final of the Dot Zenatay Invitational. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 1-2 while the Blue and Gold are now 0-3 on the young season.

After a scoreless first half frame, Brockport State scored the lone goal of the contest 2:35 into the second half on the first career marker for freshman Crystal Mott (Appleton, NY) while classmate Megan Usher (Altamont, NY) added the assist.

The game featured 10 combined shots on goal as the Golden Eagles held a 6-5 edge in shots. Brockport also held a commanding 13-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Sophomore Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY) saved all five of the shots she saw in the cage while junior Kat Masterjohn (Warren, MA) turned aside four shots for the Lancers.

Junior Lauren Daley (Dedham, MA) recorded a defensive save in the setback while senior Karla Rotondi (Tewksbury, MA) was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lancers will take the week off before they open Little East Conference play against Westfield State at 11 AM while the Golden Eagles travel to Ithaca on Thursday for a 4 PM contest.
