Field Hockey defeats Anna Maria, 6-0

Paxton, MA --- Sophomore Lindsey McGeary (Foxboro, MA) and senior Samantha Janda (Sterling, MA) combined for four goals as the Worcester State University Lancers defeated the Anna Maria AMCATS 6-0 during a non-conference matchup at AMCAT Field on Thursday night.

The Lancers improve to 4-0 on the season while the AMCATS drop to a 2-4 record.

Also marking the score sheet for Worcester State were seniors Sarah Cozzens (Lancaster, MA) with a goal and Sabrina Tordoff (Bellingham, MA) added a penalty stroke goal an assist.  Anna Maria's goaltender Marita Steinmetz (Grafton, MA) made 12 saves in the loss.

The Lancers got on the board receiving an unassisted goal by McGeary in the 14th minute of play and just seconds later Janda scored off a corner drive. McGeary made it 3-0 in the 19th minute when she drove a deflected ball in off another corner. The Lancers took a 4-0 lead into the half on Janda's second goal.

Worcester State held a commanding edge in penalty corners, 15-5, and shots, 27-5.

The goaltending duo of Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, MA) and Sydney Dionis (Shrewsbury, MA) recorded the combined shutout. Mullen logged three stops in the triumph.

Freshman Marita Larsen (Grafton, MA) notched 12 saves in the setback for Anna Maria.

The Lancers take on Little East foe Plymouth State Saturday at noon at home while the AMCATS entertain Bridgewater State a week from today at 7 PM.
