Janda And Cozzens Lead Field Hockey To 5-0 Victory Over Becker

Leicester, MA --- Senior classmates Samantha Janda (Sterling, MA) and Sarah Cozzens (Lancaster, MA) both netted two goals apiece to help lead Worcester State to a 5-0 triumph over Becker in non conference field hockey action on the road. 

Starting off the game slow, the Lancers (5-2) scored their first goal off of a penalty corner at the 31:45 mark when Janda put back a rebound off of a fourth-year Molly Cotter shot (North Easton, MA) that was initially saved by senior Hawk back Kim McKay (Bethlehem, NH).

The Blue and Gold then scored in the opening minute of the second half when Cozzens gave the visitors the 2-0 advantage on a dish by Janda who was right in front of the goalie.

WSU put the game out of reach with a trio of goals over the final 20 minutes of the contest. Junior Ally Valencia (Foxboro, MA) tallied her first marker of the season on flick by senior Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) off a penalty corner with 41:36 off the clock and then Janda and Cozzens recorded their final goals late in the contest, just 70 seconds apart.

The final goal was assisted by freshman Molly Kilday (Westford, MA).

Worcester State keeper Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, MA) made two stops in her second shutotu of the season while sophomore Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, NJ) had a busy day, recording 15 saves between the pipes for the Hawks (1-7).

The Lancers outshot the hosts, 31-5, and they enjoyed a 7-1 edge in corners - two of which were converted into goals. The contest also featured three green cards.

WSU continues LEC play with Salem State at 10 AM on Saturday while Becker hosts Wells College (NY) on Sunday at 11.
