Field Hockey Falls To Keene State, 3-0

Worcester, MA --- Senior classmates Elizabeth Coffin (Sugarhill, NH) and Aislynn Sherry (Rehoboth, MA) along with sophomore Leddy Gallagher (Acton, MA) all scored for Keene State to help lead the Owls to a 3-0 triumph over Worcester State in Little East Field Hockey action this morning at Coughlin Field.

With the win KSC improves to 11-2 and remains unbeaten in LEC play (7-0) while the Lancers slip to 7-5 and 3-4 in conference play.

Coffin put the visitors on top 1-0 at the 3:50 mark as they took advantage of a penalty corner when she scored her team-leading 10th marker of the season off of her own rebounded shot.

The Owls built up their advantage to two when Sherry netted her second tally of the season on a pass from senior Kerry Howe (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) at the top of the circle following another corner at 23:06.

The Lancers had several chances to score in the period as they had a 5-3 edge in corners, but they did not take advantage of their opportunities. Keene State also was ahead in shots by just three, 9-6, at the end of the opening frame.

Gallagher would give the Owls what they would need to help them win the game as potted her fifth marker of the year on a rebounded defensive save from WSU senior Molly Cotter (N. Easton, MA) just 1:52 into the second half.

Keene State would stay on the offensive as they did not allow a Lancer shot for the remainder of the contest. The visitors would end the stanza with a 5-0 edge in the category and a 4-1 lead in corners.

Kaitlin Davino-Draper (Hanover, MA) and DJ Cassidy (Lowell, MA) shared their ninth shutout of the year for the visitors as Davino-Draper stopped both shots she saw between the pipes. WSU junior Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, MA) collected four saves.

Worcester State takes a break until Thursday when they play New England College at 7 PM. Keene State takes on Middlebury at 6:30 on Tuesday.
