Field Hockey Drops 2-1 Decision To Plymouth State

Plymouth, NH --- Plymouth State senior Olivia Colborn (Lancaster, NH) scored both goals to help lead the Panthers to a 2-1 triumph over Worcester State in PSU's home opener and in LEC action this afternoon at Arold Field.

Colborn scored one goal in each half for the winners, giving her five on the season.  Her second goal came midway through the second half, breaking a 1-1 deadlock and that proved to be the game-winner.

PSU has won four straight games this season, improving to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in LEC games, while the Lancers dip to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Little East.

Colborn put the Panthers on the board just a minute and 24 seconds into the contest.  PSU sent the ball into the goal area from outside the circle; freshman Leah Kenison-Marvin (Center Tuftonboro, NH) redirected the ball to Colborn on the left side and she knocked in her fourth goal of the season.

That ended up as the only goal of the first half.  The Panthers had a 7-5 advantage in shots but junior Hilary Lemelin (Milan, NH) of PSU and senior Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, MA) of WSU prevented further scoring.

Worcester State got on the board five minutes into the second half.  Lemelin made a save on a shot by sophomore Molly Kilday (Westford, MA), but classmate Katelyn Abber (Dedham, MA) scored on the rebound for her first goal of the season.  The Lancers continued applying pressure on the PSU goal but couldn't put another one past Lemelin.

PSU pulled ahead with 21:33 on the clock when junior Jackie Morin (Scarborough, ME) pushed the ball ahead to Colborn on a transition and Colborn got a shot past the goalie into the upper corner of the goal.

Both teams had scoring opportunities in the final 20 minutes but both goalies came up with big saves.  Lemelin finished with nine stops while Mullen made 11 saves for the visitors.

The Panthers finished with a 14-12 advantage in shots for the game while the Lancers had a 9-5 margin in penalty corners.

Plymouth State is right back in action Sunday with a non-conference game at Castleton State College.  Worcester State plays a non-conference affair Tuesday at cross-town rival WPI.
