O’Rourke, Ledwith Pace Field Hockey To 3-1 Win Over Elms

Chicopee, MA --- Junior teammates Taylor Ledwith (Springfield, MA/Central), Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) and Krissy Kenney (Rehoboth, MA) all registered goals as they helped Worcester State post a 3-1 road victory over Elms in non-conference field hockey action this afternoon.

In the season opener for both squads, Ledwith helped put the Lancers on top with 14:31 on the clock when she took a feed by O'Rourke. O'Rourke then helped give the visitors the 2-0 advantage at the intermission following a pass by sophomore Meghan Pini (Natick, MA).

The Blazers cut the margin in half early on in the second period when senior Imogen Leonard (Sharon, MA) notched an unassisted tally just 4:07 on the clock.

But Kenney helped Worcester State bank some insurance late in the contest. Ledwith collected a rebound and dished the ball to an open Kenney for the final margin.

Freshman Kathryn Salemme (Acton, MA) turned aside one shot in the cage for the Lancers while her counterpart, junior Samantha Alvino (Holtzville, NY), collected 15 saves for Elms.

The Blue and Gold held margins in shots (32-2) and penalty corners (18-0).

With her three points this afternoon, O'Rourke moved into a tie for 19th on WSU's All-Time scoring list with Ginelle Blais (05-08).

Both squads host non-conference foes in the next week at 7 PM. Worcester State faces off against Babson on Wednesday while the Blazers entertain Western Connecticut on Thursday.
