Field Hockey Falls To Fitchburg State On The Road, 2-1

Fitchburg, MA --- Fitchburg State freshman Bailey Miller (Leominster, MA) netted her third goal of the season with 6:17 left in the contest as she helped lift the Falcons to a 2-1 victory over Worcester State in Little East field hockey action this morning at Elliot Field.

With the victory the Green & Gold improve to 6-10 (2-8 LEC) while the Lancers fall to 10-7 (5-5 LEC) on the year.

The Falcons went up 1-0 when junior Erin Morrissey (Hubbardson, MA) crossed the ball in from the right side of the field and found the stick of freshman Casey Noonan (Feeding Hills, MA), who scooped at the 22:14 mark.

Worcester State evened up the score with 46:43 off the clock in the second off a penalty corner. Junior Megan Ripke (Feeding Hills, MA) registered her second marker of the campaign off a rebounded shot that was saved by classmate Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian).

That set the stage for Millers late game heroics as she took a redirected shot from first-year Kerra Anastsia (Mansfield, MA) for the 2-1 advantage.

As time wound down with two minutes left, Worcester State had an opportunity to tie up the score on consecutive penalty corners, but the Falcons defense stiffened to secure the win.

Holewa finished with seven saves while freshman Kathryn Salemme (Boxboro, MA) had a trio of stops for the Lancers. Worcester State held a 13-10 advantage in shots as they doubled up the hosts in penalty corners (10-5).

Worcester State plays their final regular season game on the road next Saturday against Eastern Connecticut while the Falcons host Regis at 7 PM on Wednesday.
