Leicester, MA --- Worcester State defeated Becker College 73-62 in men's basketball action tonight at the Leicester Campus Gymnasium. It was the first game of the New Year for both teams. Worcester improves to 6-5 while Becker drops to 3-8 on the season.

Worcester State's senior guard Ryan Frassica (Brockton, MA) led all scorers with 25 points on 10 for 19 shooting. He was 3-7 from three point range and 2 for 2 from the free throw line.

The first half was an up and down affair with 10 lead changes. Neither team led by more than 5 points. Becker shot 45% from the field and was led by Travis Suber (Springfield, MA) who had 10 points. The Lancers shot 40% and were led by Franssica and Will Spont (Bellingham, MA) who both poured in 13 points. Becker was outrebounded 21-13 in the half and trailed 37-32 going into the locker room.

The second half was much of the same as the first half until Willis Martinez (Lawrence, MA) of Worcester State stole the ball and Justin Sheehan (Carver, MA) hit a three pointer with 6:21 remaining in the game to give Worcester State a 59-53 lead that they never relinquished.

Becker was led by Suber who had 23 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Trey Jacobs (Lexington Park, MD) had a team high 8 rebounds and added 10 points. They shot 32% from the field for the game and had 37 rebounds. Worcester State shot 47% for the game and had 46 total rebounds.

Spont finished with a double double, a game high 15 rebounds and 21 points for Worcester State.

Becker returns to action Friday night when they host Castleton State at 6:00pm
