Worcester State Falls Just Short Versus Framingham

Worcester, MA --- Despite Will Spont (Bellingham, MA) becoming the 22nd Worcester State men's basketball player to reach the 1,000 career point milestone, the Worcester State squad had a tremendous comeback fall just short to the visiting Rams of Framingham State College Thursday evening in Lancer Gymnasium.  The Lancers drop to 9-13 (2-7 MASCAC) while Framingham State evens up at 11-11 (6-3 MASCAC).

The Lancers trailed by 9 points, 66-57, with 1:00 remaining before they begin their furious comeback.  Sophomore Brandon Fortes (Pawtucket, RI) hit a pair of threes and Ryan Testagrossa (Athol, MA) also hit one from downtown in the flurry for the Lancers.  With less than 10 second remaining Fortes hit is second three pointer to make the score, 72-70.  Testagrossa stole the inbounds pass at midcourt but the last second Lancer effort would not drop as the visitors went home victorious.

Spont's milestone was reached with 5:12 left in the first half.  The senior entered the game needing 12 points and on the play he grabbed a rebound and made the put back while being fouled on the play.  Spont is averaging a career best 15.1 points per game this season.

On the night four Lancers reached double figures.  Ryan Frassica (Brockton, MA) led the Lancers with 17 points.  Spont finished with 16 before fouling out while Fortes and Hamilton each had 14 on the evening.  Framingham State was led by Bill Carey (Abington, MA)who had a game-high 19 points.  Josue Almodovar (Holyoke, MA) had 14 points and 10 boards.  Rob Scarpato (Hopkinton, MA) also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Michael Hines (Boston, MA) added 12 points in the win for the visitors. 

Worcester State returns to action on Saturday when they host MCLA on Alumni Day.  Framingham State host Salem State on Saturday afternoon as well.
