Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior forward Maurice
Horton has been named to the 2009-10 Men’s
Basketball All-Conference first team as announced by league
publicist Jim Seavey after a vote by the leagues coaches earlier
this week. For Horton’s this is his second-straight first
team selection after he earned the same accolades last season.
Horton, who hails from Detroit, MI and went to high school locally
at Burncoat, led the conference in scoring (20.7 PPG), total points
(477), assists (4.91 APG), total assists (113) while he was second
in rebounding (9.3 RPG) and total rebounds (215). Horton is also
seventh in three point percentage (.359) and ninth in both field
goal percentage (.464) and free throw percentage (.670).
As of Tuesday’s national rankings, which included the final
week of the regular season, Horton ranks 31st, 44th and 52nd in the
NCAA Division III in points, assists and rebounds per game,
respectively.
With exactly 1,100 career points in two years at Worcester State,
Horton is ranked 16th on the all-time scoring list, just two points
off of Jim Reddick’s (1970-74) total of
1,102. He is also 22 off of Jim Murphy's (1978-82)
tally of 1,122 and 25 away from Ron Dunham's
(1966-70) mark of 1,125.
Horton has career averages of 21.3 points, 9.3 rebounds (482
total) and 3.96 assists (206 total) in 52 games.
Bridgewater State’s Nick Motta (Fairhaven, MA) was honored
as the conference Player of the Year while BSC head coach Joe
Farroba was named the Coach of the Year. Westfield’s Nick
Devine (Pembroke, MA) distinguished himself as the MASCAC Rookie of
the Year.
The Lancers are currently 13-13 on the season and are in the
MASCAC semifinals as the fourth seed. WSC takes on top-seeded Bears
later this afternoon at 7 PM in Bridgewater’s Adrian Tinsley
Center.
