Horton Selected MASCAC Player of the Week

 Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior forward Maurice Horton (Detroit, MI/Burncoat) has been named MASCAC Player of the Week for his contributions in three games for Worcester State this past week. This is the third time that Horton has received the honor in his two years at WSC.

Horton averaged 24 points, 6.6 rebounds, 6.3 assists with four blocks and three steals in a 0-3 week for the Lancers. He earned all-tournament honors after collecting 31 points and six boards in a 90-88 overtime consolation round setback to Rochester Tech and he added 19 points, eight boards and seven assists in a 75-73 opening round loss to Fredonia State. Horton started off the week scoring 22 points with eight assists in a 90-78 setback to nationally-ranked UMass Dartmouth as he connected for 50 percent (23-for-46) from the field for the week.

As of this past week Horton was first in the MASCAC in average scoring (21.5), average assists (5.38) while he is second in rebounding (8.9), total scoring (172) and total blocks (11). Horton is also third in average defensive rebounds (6.25), fourth in three point percentage (.378), sixth in average offensive rebounds (2.63) and 11th in total field goal percentage (.467).

The Lancers are currently 3-5 under the direction of head coach Dave Lindberg. Worcester State plays their next game against Colby-Sawyer on Sunday, January 3 in the opening round of the Purple and Gold Tournament hosted by Williams. The game is a rematch from their meeting last year in the Hockenbury Tournament that saw WSC fall to the Mustangs, 85-72.
