Leicester, MA --- Becker College defeated Worcester State 63-49 to advance to the Worcester County Classic Championship game tomorrow night at 7:30 PM.
 
In the first half of play the two teams exchanged the lead four times. The Hawks were able to extend their advantage to eight points with 9:14 remaining in the half when Terrance Favors (Boston, MA) sunk a three pointer.

The Lancers refused to let the Hawks off easy as they went on a 6-0 run, capped by a Mike Gittens (Uncasville, CT) jumper with 5:39 remaining in the half. With Becker in front 23-21, Kurt Steiner (Rutland, MA) nailed a trey, putting the Lancers in front 24-23. Becker answered back with back to back jumpers by Markus Wright (New Haven, CT) and Favors, as the Hawks took a two point lead into the locker room.
 
Becker got their feet under them in the second half, as they score seven unanswered points in just over a minute. The Hawks never relinquished their lead the entire second half. The Lancers pulled within three with just over 15 minutes remaining, but the Hawks proved to be too much for Worcester State.
 
Favors scored a game high 15 points to lead the Hawks. Rajai Leggett (New Haven, Ct) chipped in with 11 points. Markus Wright came within one point of scoring a double-double after netting nine points and game-high 13 rebounds. 
 
Junior Frank Stephenson (Fall River, MA) led the lancers with a team high 14 points. Stephenson was the lone Worcester State player to score double figure points. Senior Dave Douillette (Bridgewater, MA) pulled down 10 boards for the Lancers.

Worcester State will play Nichols College in the Consolation Game of the Worcester County Classic at 5:30 PM tomorrow night. With the loss the Lancers fall to 0-2 on the season. With the win the Hawks improve to 2-0 on the season.

Becker will host WPI at 7:30 PM tomorrow night in the Championship game of the Worcester County Classic.
