Worcester, MA --- Senior Dane Jobst (Athol, MA) has been named to the Capital One Academic Division III District I Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). Jobst moves on to the national ballot as he tries to become the first Worcester State men's basketball Academic All-American.
Jobst becomes the first WSU men's basketball student-athlete in 20 years to garner Academic All-District accolades as Tom McNamara received Second-team laurels in 1993. Jobst was the only student-athlete from the MASCAC chosen to the District I First-team.
District I includes institutions that make up Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Jobst was the only student-athlete from the MASCAC on the six member team that included senior Ryan Sheehan (N. Attleboro, MA) of Nichols and senior Nicholas DelPrato (Marshfield, MA) of Clark.
Jobst has been instrumental in helping lead the Lancers this season as he has averaged 17.0 points and 13.1 rebounds with 11 double doubles in 17 games.
Not including Tuesday night's effort that included 20 points and 20 boards in a win against Framingham State, Jobst is ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III in total rebounds (215) and fifth in average (12.6 RPG) while he was among the top 30 scorers in New England. As of this past Sunday, he was just 32 caroms off the leader in total rebounds and he is one of two in the region with 10-plus double-doubles.
Last season, Jobst finished tied second in Division III in double-doubles with 17 in 25 contests. He was also fifth in Division III in rebounds (12.1 RPG), seventh in total (314) and helped lead the Blue and Gold to the MASCAC Tournament quarterfinals.
Jobst boosts a sparkling 3.91 grade point average with a major in Criminal Justice. Since transferring from St. Joseph's (Vermont) he has been honored on the NABC Honors Court, he has been a two-time dean's list recipient, honored on the MASCAC All-Academic Team and actively involved in the Worcester State Athlete Mentor program.
To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
This year marks the third that the College Division (Non-Division I) has been expanded to include Divisions I, II, III and NAIA and Canadian schools and two year-institutions. The regions were spread out to include eight distinct geographic locations across the United States.
