DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has named Alex Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) the Corvias ECAC Division III New England Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 31.
"Alex had another solid week for us and was instrumental in our success last week," commented head coach David Lindberg.
Santos, a two-time ECAC Division III New England honoree, averaged 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in the victorious week for Worcester State.
"He hit some big shots late to keep us playing in both games," stated Lindberg.
The freshman scored 23 points, including a game-tying three pointer with 21 seconds left, in an 89-88 victory over Westfield State.
He then netted a team-high 30 points with six rebounds and two assist in a 104-94 overtime win against MCLA.
"Against MCLA he was not shooting the ball great and adjusted by going to the basket and scoring from the free throw line – that is a great sign that he is growing as a player," commented Lindberg. Santos connected at the free throw line going 15-for-21 (71.4%).
He currently stands at seventh in the MASCAC for points per game with 14.0 and marks second place in the conference with a three point shooting percentage of 35.4%.
