Cranston, RI --- The Worcester State Golf team placed eighth
overall on the second day of the Johnson & Wales Invitational
as they finished with 673 total strokes (+105) at the 71 par
Cranston Country Club. The Lancers who were tied for eighth with
Tufts to start day two had an improvement of 11 strokes.
The squad was led by sophomore Bob Bruso (Auburn,
MA) who placed fourth overall with a two day total of 152 (+10)
just six strokes off of leader Fernando Pineres of Babson. Senior
Nick Lombardi (N. Grafton, MA) tied for ninth with
a total of 156 (+14).
Tim Howard tied for 46th with 175 strokes (+33)
while junior Mike Leveroni (Arlington, MA) and
Jim Sarkisian chipped in with 65th (190; +48) and
66th (197; +55), respectively.
NYU took the team title with an impressive score of 606 (+38)
followed by Babson (625; +57), UMass-Dartmouth (642; +74), Rhode
Island College (644; +74), Johnson and Wales (652; +84) and
Brandies (662; +94. Wesleyan edged WSC out for seventh by a stroke
with a total of 672 (+104).
The golf team will hit the links again when they host the Worcester
State Invitational at Sterling Country Club in Sterling, MA on
Tuesday afternoon.
