Lancers Tie in OT with Plymouth State

Auburn, MA --- Worcester State and Plymouth State drew to a 2-2 tie this evening in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening at the Horgan Memorial Rink. With the tie Worcester State moves to 5-11-2 and 3-8-2 in the MASCAC while Plymouth State goes to 12-7-1 and 8-4-1 in the conference.

WSC sophomore Nick Asterito (Philadelphia, PA) tallied a pair of helpers for the Lancers while Panther freshman Richie Zobak (Evergreen Park, IL) scored the late game-tying goal for the visitors.

A scoreless first period had both teams gridlocked as Plymouth State held a 9-8 edge on shots.

The Lancers drew first blood at 3:45 as junior Justin Brownstein (Wyncote, PA) opened the scoring with Asterito and freshman Eric Rutz (Maspeth, NY) each assisting on the play with the extra-man advantage.

The Panthers responded 39 seconds later as third-year David Rose (Haddonfield, NJ) recorded his fourth goal of the season when they took advantage of a power play six ticks after the penalty was called. Freshman Alex Cottle (West Chester, PA) and sophomore Chris Zaremba (Colorado Springs, CO) each recorded dishes for PSU.

Junior Billy O'Neill (Strafford, PA) gave the Lancers a 2-1 lead early on in the third when they had a 5 on 4 opportunity at 6:43. Asterito and sophomore Andrew Brady (Oreland, PA) tacked on points with the assist.

That set the stage for Zobak who knotted the score at 10:16 with some help from junior Andrew Stewart (O'Leary, PE) and classmate Sean Buckley (Sagamore, MA).

The Panthers would outshoot WSC 16-9 from the third stanza on including a 6-0 lead in the extra session.

Freshman Zach Hansen (Dexter, MI) recorded his second straight tie for the Lancers as he stopped 36 of the 38 shots that came his way while senior Aaron Runner (Alpharetta, GA) collected 25 saves for the visitors.

The Lancers continue their season on the road at Assumption on Thursday at 7:35 while Plymouth State will face off against Salem State on the same day at 2 PM.
