Rams Snap Skid To Defeat Ice Hockey 6-1

Auburn, MA --- Framingham State senior Joseph Hurley (Charlestown, MA) notched three points for a two goals and an assist while classmate Brett Casavant (Gardner, MA) dished out four helpers to help lead the Rams to a 6-1 victory this evening in men's MASCAC ice hockey action.

FSC snaps a 15 game losing streak as they improved their record to 2-17-2 overall and 2-12-2 in the conference while the Lancers slip to 5-13-2 and 3-9-2 in the league.

The Rams opened the game with a quick 3-0 lead after the first period. Fourth-year Matt Lally (Natick, MA) notched the first goal 30 seconds into the game before classmate Trevor Johnson (Anchorage, AK) sent in a short-handed marker six minutes later for the game-winner. Hurley put the visitors on top with the final tally as Casavant recorded the first of his four assists.

In the second stanza Framingham State struck late as freshman Nicholas Calma (Simi Valley, CA) and Hurley each scored 9 seconds apart while Casavant aided the cause for the Rams. Calma tallied his goal at 18:21 while Hurley's marker was his team-leading 12th of the season.

FSC added thier final goal at 14:29 as first-year Ed Walsh (Haverhill, MA) scored as each team had just four skaters on the ice.

Sophomore Andrew Brady (Oreland, PA) broke the shutout at 17:39 as senior Billy O'Neill (Strafford, PA) and second-year Nick Asterito (Philadelphia, PA) recorded assists.

The game was a physical one as the two squads combined for 20 penalties, with ten apiece. Worcester State had a frustrating evening as they actually outshot the visitors 47-33 as they doubled up the Rams 18-9 in the third period. WSC was also 0-for-6 with the extra man advantage while Framingham State was 2-for-6.

Junior Terence Sullinan (Shirley, MA) was outstanding as he stopped 46 of the 47 shots he saw this evening while senior Andrew Evans (Cromwell, CT) and freshman Zach Hansen (Dexter, MI) combined for 27 stops.

Both squads continue their respective conference schedules when they host a pair of MASCAC games on Thursday. The Lancers entertain UMass Dartmouth on "Senior Day" at 5:30 PM while the Rams host Salem State at 7:20.
